My name is Katie Scott and I am a lover of all things kitchen, home, and family. I am a firm believer that old church cookbooks have the best recipes and that mothers and grandmothers are unmatched as teachers in the kitchen. I have spent many years catering, baking, planning and prepping for all types of events & parties and my favorite part of it all is serving the people I love. This site displays my current offerings and captures my adventures in the kitchen cooking for my husband, friends & family, baking everything from tried & true to completely new, and telling stories of family recipes and vintage finds. I love a perfectly baked cookie on the cutest-of-cute antique plate...but if that recipe has a backstory or that plate has a family history, you better believe I will be talking about it!
My hope is that you will be inspired, learn something, share with those around you, and enjoy all that Juniper Fancy has to offer.
With a full heart and an empty plate,
WHAT DOES 'JUNIPER FANCY' MEAN?
Well...it all started with my mom wanting to take her 4 children, their significant others, and her 4 grandchildren to Disneyland for her 60th birthday. Both my sister and sister-in-law were pregnant at the time of this adventure so we knew this would be our last big trip for awhile. Now, my sister-in-law knew the sex of her baby and the name they had chosen (Nash) and we were ready for him to join us! However, my sister and her husband wanted to keep their name choices a secret and they had not yet found out what they were having so we were really in the dark. We came to the conclusion that we were going to 'name' their baby and use that name until he or she was born. Enter baby 'Juniper Fancy'.
This trip was a couple of years ago, so the exact details on how we actually came up with the name are a little foggy - it had something to do with my sister, husband and I hearing a mother repeatedly call out to her child while waiting in line at Universal Studios. By some interpretation we decided that the child must have been named Juniper; I declared that was going to be the baby's name as it could be either boy or girl...then I believe it was my husband who tacked on 'Fancy' and it became official. We told the family and it made us all smile, especially when said in a British accent, because obviously that made it more fancy. It brought so much laughter to our trip and still brings many smiles to this day. That's why I chose it; it reminds me of one of the very best times with my family, and they are the ones that inspire me to pursue my passions and dream big.
